The 12th International European Conference on Ethics and Integrity in Academia (ECEIA26) will take place in 2026 in Batumi, Georgia, hosted in cooperation with the ETHICS Project. Bringing together researchers, educators, policymakers, and practitioners from around the world, ECEIA26 will explore how rapidly evolving technologies and shifting academic landscapes continue to reshape integrity, responsibility, and ethical practice in higher education and research.
This year’s conference theme embraces a broad range of topics, including:
- Ethics of intelligence – Expanding the conversation beyond AI to examine how emerging technologies such as neuroanalytics, digital twins, and data-driven decision systems influence ethical learning, teaching, and research.
- Academic freedom and integrity – Addressing the tensions between protecting autonomy in academia and ensuring responsible development of teaching, learning, and research materials, including concerns about censorship, political pressures, and the spread of misinformation.
- Accountability and institutional responsibility – Exploring mechanisms for handling misconduct and strengthening the roles of universities, publishers, and funders in fostering ethical environments.
- Ethical publishing and dissemination – Discussing responsible authorship and the impact of AI on publication ethics, while also tackling issues such as predatory journals, essay mills, authorship for sale, and the pressures of “publish or perish.”
- Postplagiarism and evolving authorship – Considering originality, remix culture, and collaborative writing in the age of AI.
- Ethical teaching of sensitive topics in the age of AI – Including strategies for teaching about censorship, AI hallucinations, and historical accuracy.
- Education and training in ethics and integrity – Sharing innovative research and practical experiences in ethics education.
- Academic integrity in hybrid and online education – Examining new forms of misconduct, the ethics of proctoring, and the balance between student privacy and assessment security.
