This workshop is aimed at increasing the awareness of medical and biomedical students on the importance of medical and bio-ethics in clinical practice and research. Participants will be introduced recent examples of high profile clinical and research cases of ethical dilemma including genetically modified food, biofuel, animal rights, reproductive freedom etc. Using a debate based approach participants will be made to understand the ethical issues in clinical practice.

The workshop will also address the importance of ethics in three critical levels of training namely undergraduate training at medical schools, post-graduate residency training with regard to the MD-PhD transition and a training programme for physicians already integrated into the health system and aiming at added value to their professional and career opportunities through specific training into biomedical research. Also, the workshop will aim to empower physicians regarding their potential to engage in preclinical/clinical research and to tackle to “reproducibility crisis” which is undermining the credibility of science in general and in particular of biomedical research (see e.g. https://www.nature.com/news/reproducibility-1.17552).
