Key Note Speakers

• Dr Tracey Bretag | Editor | International Journal for Educational Integrity (BMC, SpringerNature)

Tracey Bretag is an Associate Professor (Higher Education) at the University of South Australia. Tracey’s research for over 17 years has focussed on all aspects of academic integrity. Since 2011 she has led four large Australian Office for Learning and Teaching funded research projects, including the Academic Integrity Standards Project, the Exemplary Academic Integrity Standards Project, the Intercultural Learning in Asia Project and (with Dr Rowena Harper) the Contract cheating and assessment design: Exploring the connection project. Tracey is the Founding Editor of the International Journal for Educational Integrity (BMC, SpringerNature), Editor-in-Chief of the Handbook of Academic Integrity (Springer 2016), Editor of A Research Agenda for Academic Integrity (2020, forthcoming) and former President of the Executive Board to the International Center for Academic Integrity in the U.S.A. (2014-2016). Tracey is the Lead Advisor for the Epigeum Academic Integrity Program.

• Dr Thomas Lancaster | Senior Teaching Fellow | Imperial College London

Thomas Lancaster has researched issues surrounding academic integrity since 2000. He currently teaches at Imperial College London in the UK and regularly speaks at international academic integrity events. He is best known for research into contract cheating, a term he developed with now-retired colleague Robert Clarke to describe the phenomemum where students utilise third parties to complete their academic work for them. Much of Thomas’ recent research has related to investigating the commercial side of the contract cheating industry, including the operation of the essay mills, providers and individuals who help students to breach academic integrity.

• Dr Teddi Fishman | Program Director & Associate Professor | American Public University, USA

Teddi Fishman directed the International Center for Academic Integrity for nearly a decade, and is now a Program Director and Associate Professor at the American Public University. She’s an advocate for authentic, experiential and engaged learning as for comprehensive education reform. She believes that a combination of educational, comprehensive, and peer-based approaches are necessary to create and fully realize communities of integrity.

• Dr Tomas Foltynek | President | ENAI

Tomas Foltynek is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Informatics and Academic integrity coordinator of the Faculty of Business and Economics, Mendel University in Brno, Czechia. He is also the founding President of the Board of the European Network for Academic Integrity.

• Dr Elizabeth Wilson | Director of Programs | Sheikh Saud bin Saqr al Qassimi Foundation for Policy Research

Elisabeth Wilson, the Director of Programs at the Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi Foundation for Policy Research, is responsible for Foundation’s capacity development efforts for students and adults. Elisabeth has more than fifteen years of international education experience including conducting education research, program monitoring and evaluation, and teaching English language to speakers of other languages.

• Professor Mohamed Val Mohamed Salm | President | University of Wollongong in Dubai

Prof. Mohamed-Vall M. Salem received a Master of Science and PhD in Computer Science from the University of Montreal (Canada). While a postgraduate student, he received the IBM Centre for Advanced Studies Ph.D. fellowship for three consecutive years and the “Bourse d’excellence de la Francophonie” from the Canadian International Development Agency. Prof. Salem previously worked as a software engineer for several years, undertaking collaborative research with the IBM Center of Advanced Studies (Toronto) and HP Protocol Test Center (Montreal), and worked for some time as a product analyst for a start-up software company in Canada. His areas of interest and expertise are in both technical and non-technical aspects of computing including software engineering, performance analysis and scalability, innovation and ethics in information technologies. He was appointed in 2005 as Faculty Fellow with the IBM Toronto Laboratory Centre for Advanced Studies and is a member of the steering committee of the North African and Middle East ACM Programming contest.

• Dr Shivadas Sivasubramaniam | Head of Biomedical and Forensic Science | University of Derby, UK

Shivadas Sivasubramaniam currently works at the School of Human Sciences in University of Derby as the Head of Biomedical and Forensic Science. Shivadas does research in Cancer Research, Cell Biology and Developmental Biology. Their current project is ‘European Network of Academic Integrity’.

• Dr Sonja Bjelobaba | Associate Professor and Researcher Centre for Research Ethics & Bioethics Uppsala University, Sweden

Sonja Bjelobaba is project manager for “Research ethics courses” at the Centre for research ethics and bioethics as well as an associate professor in Serbian, Croatian, Bosnian at the Department of Modern Languages the Uppsala university. She defended her thesis at the University of Gothenburg where she, as an educational developer, taught research integrity, postgraduate supervision courses and other courses for faculty relating to teaching and learning in higher education. Sonja Bjelobaba’s research concentrate on academic integrity in the Balkans and in Sweden.

Mendel University in Brno (MENDELU) is the oldest independent specialized university in the Czech Republic. It was established in 1918 as an agricultural university. Nowadays, Mendel University is formed by five faculties: Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Forestry and Wood-technology, Faculty of Business and Economics, Faculty of Horticulture, and Faculty of Regional Development and International Studies. MENDELU provides variety of study programmes for almost 10,000 students at bachelor, master and PhD level, conducts excellent research in many areas and is continuously increasing its quality.

European Network for Academic Integrity (ENAI) is an association of institutions engaged in education. The objectives of ENAI are to promote integrity in whole academia (i.e. education, research and other aspects of academic sector), specifically:

• to collaborate towards research and promotion of academic integrity
• to provide a platform for academics across all sectors to investigate, exchange, develop, collaborate and access resources in the field of academic integrity
