ENAI Awards

We award people for significant, innovative or ground-breaking advancement towards academic integrity core values, goals and/or culture change in practice.

Call for nominations

Notification of the opening of the awards process will be communicated each year in advance of the annual conference by email, social media, other related conferences and through the ENAI web site. Nominations may be submitted at any time for consideration by the ENAI Awards Sub-Committee prior to the stated deadline.

Nomination procedure

Nominations for awards may be submitted by any member of ENAI or ENAI supporters via the ENAI awards submission portal (by direct submission and/or to a confidential email address). The normal process will be for nominees to be submitted by a third party. Self-nomination is not encouraged.
Nomination forms include the following:

Name of nominee(s), affiliated institution or organization and contact details
Name of nominator, affiliated institution or organization, and relationship to nominee (if any) as well as contact details
For self-nomination – Name and contact details of 2 endorsers/referees
Title of the award for which nominated
Narrative of up to 400 words that details the significance, range, challenges, and impact of the work, and how it has inspired perseverance, courage and or bravery in others in the field of academic integrity.  Attaching documentation is encouraged.

The awards sub-committee reserves the right to contact supporters and nominators to request additional information about the nominee or to clarify questions about the nominee.
Nominators should receive an automated acknowledgement message to the email ID provided acknowledging receipt of nomination (follow-up process).

Evaluation of nominations

The Awards subcommittee consisting of members of the ENAI Board and the Awards working group will review all the nominations and select recipient(s) based on individual merit according to the evidence provided. Awards will only be given to truly exemplary nominees, and typically just one award will be given annually. Duplicate awards are possible though not anticipated, and an award will not be given if there are no suitable candidates.

The Awards subcommittee will discuss the merits of nominations before final selection of the successful candidate(s). Responsibility and accountability regarding objectivity and confidentiality will be practiced in assessing nominations. Should any member of the sub- committee have a conflict of interest relating to a nominee, he/she shall be required to declare the relationship and/or conflict and subsequently disassociate him/herself from the deliberation or decision-making relating to that nomination.

If the Awards subcommittee so desires, they may acknowledge the other nomination(s) during the presentation of awards or through appropriate informal recognition (e.g. Certificate of Appreciation or similar). [Particularly because ENAI awards are intended to inspire others, we would like to highlight all efforts and achievements that might serve in that capacity.]

The deliberation process for deciding the awards is confidential and the decisions taken by the sub-committee are non-negotiable.

Resubmission for consideration: should a candidate be unsuccessful, re-nomination for/of the same individual/group can be made as early as the following year; resubmission of a successful candidate can only be made after a minimum of three years have passed.

Notification of awards

The names and details of recipients of an award should subsequently be publicized adequately through different ENAI channels, as well through Press Releases made to each recipient’s local area media outlets. It should be noted on the nomination form that information included in the award nomination will be used for communication of awards purposes for successful recipients.

ENAI Exemplary Research Award

The ENAI Exemplary Research Award is given to a researcher or a research group for significant, innovative or ground-breaking contributions in research related to academic integrity. Nominations to this award are not restricted to ENAI members, but only people affiliated with ENAI member institutions and ENAI individual supporters can nominate individuals or groups for this award.

ENAI Exemplary Activism Award

The ENAI Exemplary Activism Award is given to an individual or a group for significant, innovative or ground-breaking advancement towards academic integrity core values, goals, and/or culture change in practice. Nominations to this award are not restricted to ENAI members, but only people affiliated with ENAI member institutions and ENAI individual supporters can nominate individuals or groups for this award.

Tracy Bretag ENAI Memorial Award

The Tracey Bretag ENAI Memorial Award will be awarded to persons or groups who have made exemplary contributions to the understanding, advancement, and/or promotion of academic integrity by demonstrating and/or inspiring perseverance, bravery or courage, and inspiring others to do likewise. Dr. Bretag’s life and work were a study in

  • perseverance: continued effort in the face of opposition;
  • bravery: facing challenges and obstacles without fear, and
  • courage: persistence in one’s endeavors despite trepidation or fear.

This award recognizes those who demonstrate these qualities and inspire it in others,  through their own contributions to research and practical works in the field of academic integrity. Eligibility for this award will be evaluated in terms of the:

  1. Significance of the work—the degree to which the work advances or contributes to  the cause of academic integrity, and it’s likelihood of spreading and or being replicated;
  2. Range of impact—the ways in which the work affects, engages, and/ or inspires others;
  3. The ways in which this work demonstrates and/or inspires perseverance, bravery and or/courage–challenges overcome;

Nominations to this award are not restricted to ENAI members/supporters, but ENAI members/supporters must endorse external nominations for this award.

ENAI Outstanding Member Award

The ENAI Outstanding Member award is given to a member or group for significant, innovative or ground-breaking contributions to the ENAI as an organization. Examples of outstanding contributions include:

  • Contributions to exemplary research in the field in target ENAI focus areas
  • Promoting or conducting Academic Integrity Activism that advances ENAI goals
  • Innovation and leadership at ENAI member institutions
  • Exemplary representations of ENAI to the public that increases awareness of ENAI goals

Nominations to this award must be of ENAI members and/or those associated with ENAI member institutions.  Only ENAI members and individual supporters can nominate individuals or groups for this award.

ENAI Outstanding Student Award

ENAI Student Award (awarded to students at ENAI member institutions) who:

  • Contribute to exemplary research in the field
  • Promote or conduct outstanding Academic Integrity Activism
  • Innovate and provide leadership at the student level

Nominations to this award are restricted to students at ENAI member institutions. ENAI members can nominate individuals or groups of students for this award.

Criteria and case for nomination

  • Nomination Overview <= 1000 characters. Please list and describe relevant activities and practices (including publications and research if relevant) of the nominee that relate to the objectives of ENAI
  • Impact of Achievement  <= 1000 characters. Describe what the nominee (researcher or research group) has achieved in their activities, practices, and/or research that makes their contributions innovative or ground-breaking
  • Outcomes and evidence (no more than 700 characters). Evidence of relevant achievements, effectiveness, impacts, who benefited, how widespread and the potential to be duplicated and sustained elsewhere.
  • Inspiration, reach, and spread (no more than 700 characters). Please include information detailing how the above efforts are being used as a model or inspiration for additional activities that further the goals of the ENAI and/or serve as a catalyst for positive change.
  • Any supporting materials deemed necessary can be sent to the confidential email awards@academicintegrity.eu putting the Name of the Nominee in the Subject Line. Where there are supporting materials in a language other than English, please provide a brief summary in English when possible.

Where applicable, the nominator should clarify the details of any external support and/or funding received by the nominee related to their nomination. Criteria for each category, the stated objective of the award will be considered with respect to effectiveness, impact, sustainability, and potential as a model.
